Welcome!

Welcome to the NIH Privacy Awareness Annual Refresher Course.

The NIH mission is to make important medical discoveries that improve health and save lives. To do that, we need to disseminate information quickly and widely to a diverse population.

Protecting privacy is key to retaining the public’s trust in the important work that we perform. We have to ensure that the information we collect and maintain about the people we serve is safeguarded and not improperly disclosed to individuals who are not authorized to receive it.

Privacy Awareness is important to anyone who is involved in the design, development, operation, use, or maintenance of records containing personally identifiable or sensitive information, regardless of whether they are stored in a paper-based or electronic system.
